Join us as we come together in empowering women through knowledge sharing
KESHENA, WI- The College of Menominee Nation’s (CMN) Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) will be hosting their second Women’s Empowerment Summit and Training (W.E.S.T.) on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the Menominee Casino Resort. W.E.S.T is one of the celebrations held by CMN as a part of its 30th Anniversary: Restoring Nations Through Education.
This free event will feature keynote speeches from Indigenous Educator, Starla Thompson, Communications Director of Coalition Against Trafficking Women (CATW), Nora Hennick, and Co-Founder and President of the Urban Indigenous Collective, Sutton King, along with a panel of women leaders from around the world. Additionally, there will be opportunities to network, breakout sessions, local vendors, and raffle prizes.
Per the mission statement of W.E.S.T., it was created for “empowering women through knowledge sharing, professional development, wellness, and personal growth.” In 2021, SDI held a discussion with CMN faculty during their in-service. They identified that they needed to support and empower women to assist them in succeeding, not only in their academic life, but in their personal and professional lives as well.
All are encouraged to attend W.E.S.T.! Registration and breakfast begins at 7:45 am followed by opening remarks at 8:30 am. W.E.S.T. is sponsored by College of Menominee Nation, Sustainable Development Institute, American Indian College Fund, and the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA).
PRESS: If you plan on attending, please RSVP to Michaela Welch at mwelch@menominee.edu.
